It is really difficult to choose some books and writers for whom, like me,reads all the time.
Books are my life, but there are some authors I really love. Whe I was a child my favourite book was Notre dame de paris by Victor Hugo.
I love 19 century french literature, from Zola's Nana to Flaubert's Madame Bovary,
My absolutely favourite book is Spring snow from Yukio Mishima. He is my favourite writer, and I have read almost everything written by him. He committed suicide with the holy ritual of seppuku, just a few minutes after finishing his last book.. I like also banana yoshimoto, haruki mirakami, tanabaka, and old japanese legends.
Oscar Wilde is another genius to me. I love especially his fables, and above all "The nightingale and the rose" and "The fisher and his soul".
Neil Gaiman, among the contemporaries, is on my top ten, with Stardust, Neverwhere. American gods, Coraline and the graphic novel The Sandman, which is a true masterpiece.
My favourite fantasy writers are Tolkien, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Philip Pullman. I'm a great fan of Harry Potter and in love with Lord Voldemort, the Dark Lord...
And then Thomas Mann, Elias Canetti, Pirandello, Coertzee, Jane Austen, Alice in the Wonderland di Lewis Carrol, Suskind.
My favourite poets are Rimbaud and Baudelaire, Prévert, Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath. I adore every single word written by Shakespeare.
Angela Carter, Laurell K Hamilton and all vampire stories can make me happy. I read thousands of comics, too from manga to graphic novels, and how not remembering V per vendetta, Maus, The dream hunter, Berserk, X, Clover, Andrea Pazienza?
Among south america writers I like Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marques very much.
Indeed, there are so many books and writers I love it is absolutely impossible to list them all. This is just a hint, to start a discussion over books.. _________________ Vous serez ma proie |

My favorite writers are Marion Zimmer Bradley with her Darkover books and Anne Rice with her vampire chronicle.
I read most of the Darkover Books but I never read the mists of Avalon.
By Anne Rice I read Interview with the Vampire, the Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Nightmare, Pandora and Memnoch the Devil.
Of course I read Harry Potter and I also read some Mangas. Some of my favorite mangas are Inu Yasha, X, Magic Knight Rayearth and Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne.
At the moment I haven't the time to read because we write so many tests at school but in five weeks are hollydays and then I'll read the sixth Harry Potter and a darkover book but I don't know which I should read first because they are all good. _________________ Feuer, Feuer, FEUER ^^ |

One of my absolute favourites is The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. I've read it so often since the first time at age 13, and so far in German, English and Spanish.
Then there's Phantom by Susan Kay, it's the fascinating life story of the phantom of the Parisian opera.
Another one is a children's book, Futuretrack 5 by Robert Westall.
I've read a lot of Star Trek novels (classic mostly) and there are two I've read at least a dozen times. Uhura's song by Janet Kagan and The Pandora Principle by Carolyn Clowes, both with a lot of Spock inside of course.
I adore fairy tales of every kind. Those of Astrid Lindgren are my favourites, but Oscar Wilde is fantastic, too.
At the moment I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and I'm quite sure that this will become another favourite of mine.
In general I love to read fantasy and science fiction, but also other genres if the books sound promising. Just that I don't have any time anymore to read as much as I would like to because of my work. _________________ ...und verliebe Dich, wann immer Du kannst! |

Forgot to mention poets. It's Goethe, Heine, Shakespeare.
Those are of course just the all time favourites. There are so many great people who have written great things! _________________ ...und verliebe Dich, wann immer Du kannst! |

I love the Count of Montecristo, as well as the three mosqueeters.
Anne Rice isn't among my favourites, I don't like her style very much. To me, Laurell K Hamilton and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro are better writers in vampire stories. I forgot to mention Kafka, Javier Maras, The Phantom of the Opera, and Conan Doyle's short stories of Sherlock Holmes..
I read so many books it is very difficult to mention my beloved ones.. _________________ Vous serez ma proie |

As Harry Potter was mentioned, I love those, too! Snape is among my favourites there. Won't say any more on this because @ngel obviously hasn't read volume 6. But I can't wait til volume 7 comes out at last!
I like Darkover books by MZB, too, and have them all at home. Avalon was the first I read by her, and I liked it.
I've never read Anne Rice. Maybe I'll try one day. Vampires are fascinating.
With Mangas I have to admit that the only I've read so far is Sailor Moon (and I liked it a lot) and some volumes of X/1999. _________________ ...und verliebe Dich, wann immer Du kannst! |

I like most of the books mentioned here, but my favourite books are actually written for children. I don't know what they're called in English, but in German it's "Hoerbe" and "Hoerbe and his friend Zwottel". They're by Ottfried Preußler. Two beautiful stories about a "Hutzel" living in the woods.
And besides that I love my collection of fairytales. _________________ Schön ist jede Erfahrung, die uns dem Wesenskern der Dinge, dem Urgrund allen Daseins näher bringt. |

A very interesting topic... I love books and I read a lot, although unfortunately I don't have much time to read at the moment because I have to study for my exams.
I'm basically into fantasy literature and my all-time favourite is - of course - "The Lord of the Rings" of J. R. R. Tolkien. I also love "The little Hobbit" and "The Silmarillion" and all the other beautiful Middle-Earth tales.
Other beloved authors of mine are Marion Zimmer-Bradley and the German author Wolfgang Hohlbein, Anne Rice, Stephan Grundy and J. K. Rowling (yes, I also read Harry Potter! ), and so many more...
Besides I love reading historical novels like Ken Follets "The Pillars of the Earth", a very fascinating book.
Oscar Wildes "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a wonderful book, same applies for Jane Austens "Sense and Sensibility" and "Pride and Prejudice" and every book of Shakespeare.
Paolo Coelho is also very good.
I recently read "The perfume" by Patrik Süskind, which I found really enthralling.
And there are so many books still waiting to be read! _________________ Denke nicht du bist arm, nur weil sich deine Träume nicht erfüllen. Arm sind die Menschen, die keine Träume haben.

Hey Wiebke! Does one of the stories about Zwottel tell how his tree where he lived in the woods is cut down and how he comes to the garden of humans with a Sandkasten (whatever that's in English)? Then I've read that, too... I sometimes thought about it but could never remember the name. _________________ ...und verliebe Dich, wann immer Du kannst! |

@all the others: Sorry for writing in German, but that's a bit difficult to explain in English. _________________ Schön ist jede Erfahrung, die uns dem Wesenskern der Dinge, dem Urgrund allen Daseins näher bringt. |

I read every night in bed before sleeping.
Perhaps the reason why my eye-sight is getting bad
I was told that its bad for the eyes to read lying down.
I love wizard stories and fairy tales, and but also philosophicals, and but also humours and thrillers, and but also just about anything written in the English language....
It's quite a long winded thing for me to list my favourite writers.
But just to name a few as my recommends:
J.R.R.Tolkien, R. Kipling, N. Kazantzakis, J.D. Salinger, O. Wilde, E.A. Poe, V. Hugo, C. Dickens, P.G. Wodehouse, Tulku Urgyen, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche....and much more...
The last on the list is my guru.

You should all read
Kushiel's Dart and the rest of the trilogy by Jacqueline Carey.
They are... awsome!! I love them more than I can say and read them a hundred times. A
And please read them in English and not the translation, that's soo much better!!
Furthermore I don't really do.. fav writers and stuff. Shakespeare, jeeh (L)! I'm currently reading Julliet Marriliet, Seven Waters trilogy.
I like anything that has to do with history actually. I never read that much fantasy but I'm starting to do that more often. _________________ We stand alone together |
